Outdoor living is at its best at The Feighery Tail: with a firepit seating area in the front, and a shaded hot tub patio in the back yard, complete with a generous cushioned outdoor living room. Our charming Oak Island cottage is a .7 mile stroll to the beach down a sleepy lane. (Or a three minute drive.) Swim, surf, and sun yourself and then walk to Grocery stores, Barbecue, Ice Cream, and Putt Putt, all close by. If you prefer to fish the marshes or run out to the inlet from the ICW, boats and trailers are no problem and there is ample parking. The public boat ramp is super close! Screened-in porches, a hot water outdoor shower, and a gas grill make this the perfect island vacation house year round.

Our street is a straight walk through to the beach access. Nearby Middleton Park provides food trucks and a cabana with showers/ restrooms. You will have easy access to the splash pad, skate park, and baseball fields if you need a diversion from the sand for a while. And, don’t miss stopping for a Dole Whip from a nearby food truck. Our home is an easy visit to grocery shopping, dining, and bar spots, as well as various ice cream, coffee, and donut options.

Ground Level: We are a one-story home with only four steps up to the front porch.

Living Room: Smart TV, Sectional Sofa, Books, Ceiling Fan. Open floor plan.
Kitchen: Seating for 9 at table and counter, fully equipped for meals at home, stainless steel appliances, dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, electric range, coffee pot.
Primary Bedroom Suite: King Bed, Ceiling fan, Ensuite Bath.
Primary Ensuite Bathroom: Bathtub with shower, single vanity, toilet.
Guest Bedroom with Queen Bed, Wall Mounted Smart TV
Shared Hallway Bathroom with Bathtub and Shower
Guest Bunk Room with Full, Twin, and Twin Trundle

Parking: 4-6 vehicles, size dependent

Rental Policies:
In response to the increased incidence of credit card fraud, a valid government photo ID will be required for every reservation. A signed rental agreement is required: accepting House Rules on any online travel agency requires reading and acceptance of our rental agreement.

Golf Carts are prohibited at this property.

Arrival/Departure:
Summer Check-Ins (June-August) begin at 4 pm and are guaranteed by 6 pm
Off-Season Check-Ins begin at 3 pm and are guaranteed by 5 pm
Check Out is by 10 am.
We adhere to this policy, so please do not arrive early or plan to delay your departure.

Pet Policy: Dogs are Allowed. One pet is included in the rent. Extra dogs are allowed with extra payment.

Cancellation Policy:
We want to make sure you’re aware of our cancellation policy. If you cancel when your arrival date is more than 60 days away, you will receive a full refund. If you cancel when your arrival date is less than 60 days away, you will forfeit your deposit.

Things To Do:
Oak Island is known for its golden sand beaches, calming blue waters, friendly community, and close proximity to the cities of Southport, Wilmington, and Myrtle Beach. There are many cute island coffee shops, stores, breweries, a town park, a beautiful Golf Club open to summer travelers, and over 100 public water access points. There is an abundance of all things adventurous to do on Oak Island!
Surf Fishing doesn’t get much better than Oak Island. From busy public beaches to hidden creeks, from green park areas to grassy flats where you can wade – surf fishing here can be whatever you want it to be. Bring your favorite gear or hit one of the numerous bait and tackle stores to rent some, and you’ll be ready to cast away. For the best of all options, take a local guide from one of our many fishing charters dotted around the island who will cater to your group’s every need.
If you'd like to keep your fitness routine going while on vacation, you can get an out-of-town Gym pass at Oak Island Recreation Center. Utilize the Rec Center's ample parking, put in at the Kayak ramp and spend hours kayaking our beautiful marshes. Sit on the lawn and enjoy a night off cooking at our Weekly Friday night "Summer Concert In The Park" with a couple of local food truck options at this family centric Live Music event. Beach Day takes place in Oak Island on the Friday prior to July 4th and features all day activities followed by fireworks on the island that evening.
Visit Historic Southport, a seafaring town just five miles from our island, for a bigger nightlife. Southport, at the confluence of the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean, features a variety of different restaurants, bars, live music and shopping. It is one of our favorite places to walk around and check out different food and live music on the weekends. Free parking options are all over town, and you can easily walk to dozens of places while enjoying the breeze from the riverfront and admiring historic homes and general store buildings that date back to the early 1800s. Southport's State Fourth of July Festival is a three-day street fair with artists from all over the state, vendors, and food. It is truly like being in an Andy Griffith episode with the parade and grand finale fireworks show over the river front in Southport.

A special place shared with special friends

"We took a very special group of friends to the beach to celebrate together before they all go different directions for college. These kids have been together, some since kindergarten, and we wanted a special location where they could hang out, relax, enjoy the sun and water, and just generally spend quality time together. The Feighery Tale was the exact, perfect place to do just that! The home and property are impeccably maintained, and the rental offers so much to guests. It is comfortable and spacious, with back yard and front yard hang outs. The hot tub was a big hit, as was the porch swing, the bikes, and the fire pit. Proximity to the beach was fantastic - walking distance - and proximity to stores and the local ice cream spot were also fantastic. We scooted around in a golf cart all week and just had the absolute best time making memories. It is clear the owner loves their property and takes great care to ensure renters will too. I highly recommend!!

Delightful Stay in Beach Cottage

"My hubby and I recently had an awesome stay at this delightful beach cottage! It was everything we needed for a getaway! From the whimsical art to the two inviting screened in porches we quickly felt at home! The house was very well appointed. Kitchen included everything you’d need to make a meal! Even had a cute countertop ice maker…love! Beach gear essentials were available to use but also plenty of games, books and a sweet little back & front yard area to hang when not doing our beach thing. The gathering space was roomy, bed was comfy, plenty of storage, and I must make mention the whole house was a 10/10 for cleanliness!! The location was also super ideal…a bike ride or car trip to the beach and close to tons of yummy restaurants, shopping and coffee shops(yes please!). This place is a definite do-over!

"Wow! Wow! Wow! That’s all I have to say about our stay at your Oak Island house! It was just perfect. - a true Feighery Tale! The location was just perfect for us to enjoy quiet time at the house and so easy to head just down the street to the beach. It was a beautiful week all around. Great restaurants nearby, we ate so well. When we wanted to eat at home there are groceries stores close by. The house had everything we needed and we enjoyed relaxing there. We can’t wait to come back soon!

"This was a great place to stay! Loved that everything we needed for our stay was there. Everything was very clean!! The only negative thing I can say is the guest bedroom did not have a TV. Overall, we had a great time, and would stay again.
