Be sure to stop at Britt’s Donuts for one of the most sought-after treats in the area! During peak season, there is an amusement park complete with games and rides for all ages! Don’t miss “Fireworks by the Sea” at the boardwalk every Thursday night, where locals and tourists come together to see the sky light up over the ocean! Every Sunday night, there’s a free movie by the lake. Just bring your beach chair and watch a family film under the stars.
Kure Beach is located south of Carolina Beach, just 15 miles south of Wilmington and north of Fort Fisher. It is home to a variety of charming sights and activities for the whole family! The Kure Beach Fishing Pier is famously known as one of the oldest piers on the Atlantic coast. Just a few steps from the pier, you will find a variety of shops and restaurants. Kids can enjoy the nearby pirate ship playground at the Ocean Front Park and Pavilion. A little further down the road is the Aquarium at Fort Fisher. Besides an extensive display of marine life, there is currently an animatronic dinosaur exhibit and an exotic butterfly arboretum in the spring. Take a walk on the quarter-mile long trail at the Fort Fisher State Historic Site where you can view bunkers, canons, and monuments from the Civil War. Beach-goers are encouraged to check out the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area trail along the marsh to view the natural beauty of the area. Kure Beach is Pleasure Island’s best kept secret, tucked away at the end of the island! Every other Friday night, there is a free, outdoor concert at Fort Fisher State Park.
